Houses of the Empyreum
Houses are organizations based on and functioning around a noble family. In Luumyr (the midplane), however, families work in a very different way from what we are used to here on Earth. While we need to either marry someone, or be adopted as a child, to get into a family, in Luumyr, families can be much larger organizations, with millions of members and followers. And the family name can be granted by it's Crowns (house leaders, King/Queen) to anyone whom they deem fit to have it.
Loyal followers, for example, are often granted the family name, not only as a reward, but to ensure the continuation of their exclusive services. Likewise, a family can strip a memder of their family name due to criminal activity, detrayal, or even dishonor. Throughout the Empyreum, all seek a good family name for its status and recognition. Those who have no family*¹ often live either in disgrace, marginalized by society, or in the rims*², where noble names carry little weight.
There are a number of echelons and titles that can be granted to a house's follower, depending on their relationship with the house.
The Five Echelons of the Empyreum and Associated Titles
1st Echelon: High Crown of the Empyreum
Similar to "Emperor/Empress".
Referred to as "Highness, Lord/Lady"
Titles:
- Keeper of the Light: The protector of all luumi life.
- Crown of Crowns: The head of the Council of Crowns.
- Servant of Patricians and Plebians: The top public servant of the empire (similar to a president).
2nd Echelon: Crown, Crownlet, and Grancrown
Similar to "King/Queen", "Prince/Princess", and "Kingsfather/Queensmother".
Referred to as "Highness, Lord/Lady".
Titles:
- Keeper of Realms: The protect of the houses territories.
- Throne Holder: A owner of a seat in the Council of Crowns.
3rd Echelon: Zealot
Similar to "Knight".
Referred to as "Sir/Dame".
Main titles:
- Hand of the Crown: The top adviser to and representative of the Crown. The Hand of ther Corwn is the only one permitted to speak on behalf of the Corwn in their absence.
- Blade of the Crown: The general and admiral of the house's military forces.
- Shield of the Crown: The top internal security officer of the house.
- Eye of the Crown: The top inspector, supervisor and reviewer of the ongoings of house internal affairs.
- Shadow of the Crown: The top intelligence officer of the house, responsible for espionage and asset managment.
Note: House Crowns are free to create any number of Zealot titles, according to their needs or wishes.
4th Echelon: Patrician
Similar to "Nobleman/Noblewoman".
Referred to as "Lord/Lady".
Titles:
- Warden/Wardess: The administrator and owner of a "domain" (a group of provinces).
- Duke/Duchess: The administrator and owner of a "province" (a group of counties).
- Count/Countess: The administrator and owner of a "county" (a group of worlds).
- Baron/Baroness: The administrator and owner of a "world" (a planet).
- Steward/Stewardess: The administrator and owner of an "estate" (a territory within a planet).
5th Echelon: Plebeian
Pronounced "pluh-bee-uhn".
Similar to "Commoner".
Referred to as "Mister/Miss, Misses, Madam, Ma'am".
No titles... just occupations, professions, nicknames, etc.
*¹ The only other means of aquiring status and respect is to join a guild, providing essencial services to the Empyreum and it's Houses.
*² The rims, or rim territories, are realms deemed at the figurative limit of the Empyreum. Each realm is it's own dimension and therefore there is no "physical" map of the Empyreum. The rims are those realms considered at the edge of the "political spectrum" of the Empyreum.
Imperial House Necil-Sernet
House Necil-Sernet is the ruling faction of the Empyreum. They have wellrounded multi-role warships, but their true power lies in their economy and diplomacy.
